Second Mystery Donor Leaves Pile of Cash in Donation Box at Pasadena Humane Society

Inside the box, they found a white envelope which held $2,000 cash in $100 bills, and a note written on a Starbucks napkin.

Inspired by a mysterious donor who left $8,000 cash in a donation box at the Pasadena Humane Society last week, another anonymous donor left $2,000 in the box Tuesday along with a handwritten note.

On Saturday, the humane society received a "mysterious phone call" advising them to check their donation box, the Pasadena Humane Society said in a statement.

They were not able to open the box until Tuesday, because the humane society hosted the Wiggle Waggle Walk fundraiser event Sunday, and did not have the keys to the box, and then could not find the keys until Tuesday.

Inside the box, they found a white envelope which held $2,000 cash in $100 bills, and a note written on a Starbucks napkin that read, "Got the inspiration last week — Please save the animals for some of us it's all we have left," followed by a drawing of a heart.

The money will be used to provide shelter, food and medical care to animals in need, said Ricky Whitman, Vice President of Community Relations for Pasadena Humane Society.

This donation is the second largest donation the humane society has received in its donation box, Whitman said.

Just last Wednesday, they found $8,000 made up of $20 bills dropped through its slot. The female donor came to the humane society asking about cats, quietly dropped the crisp bills in the donation box and disappeared.

"We are overjoyed by the generosity from the community," the Pasadena Humane Society wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday. "Thank you for helping us rescue and care for all the animals that come to us in need."

On a typical day, the Humane Society receives about $20 in the donation box.
